Jukwaa La Katiba Tanzania

This case study profiles the JUKATA campaign, which successfully forged new ground for civil society in Tanzania during the 2010-2013 constitutional review. JUKATA promoted civic engagement and carved out space in the process for citizens’ voices. Tanzanian and other CSOs can learn from JUKATA’s experience of helping to shape a national effort to break new ground for citizen participation.

Pastoral Women's Council Land Rights campaigns

Advocacy campaigns can be a way for people to accelerate the pace of change and organize action by communities to claim their rights. This case study profiles how the Pastoral Women's Council supported women and other members of pastoralist communities in Ngorongoro to protect their traditional lands from encroachment by developers.

Campaign to end the 2012 Doctors' Strike

This case study discusses efforts by citizens to bring an end to a doctors’ strike that left patients without public medical care and illuminated the structural weaknesses in Tanzania’s health care system.

Synthesis

This summary report draws common lessons from the three campaigns about managing network-based action, use of multiple and interconnected advocacy strategies, and identifying campaign “results” that go beyond of changes in policies and processes.
